Critical Blood Shortage - Mooresville and Denver Blood Drives

Critical Blood Shortage - Mooresville and Denver Blood Drives
On August 30th from noon to 4:00 pm at the Mooresville office of Lake Norman Realty and from 1:00 until 4:00 at the Denver office of Lake Norman Realty, the Community Blood Center of the Carolinas will be holding blood drives. "The community has hit a critical shortage and we are reaching out to community supporters for their help," said Meredith M. Mauldin of the Community BloodCenter of the Carolinas (CBCC).
The CBCC has recently announced that there is a regional blood shortage and is calling the public to donate blood as soon as possible. Summer is a particularly difficult time for all blood centers because supply drops and demand often goes up," said Martin Grable, president and CEO of the Community Blood Center of the Carolinas. "Our local community is nearing a critical level and we urge all eligible donors to donate blood today."

According to CBCC, treatment of cancer and cardiovascular disease continue as usual, while trauma often increases during the summer months, pushing demand up. People are busy during the summer and students - who account for about 20 % of the blood supply - are out of school resulting in a drop in supply.
